Philosophy

AECMS provides a dual language immersion environment that uses the Montessori method. The child can be engaged in purposeful activity and be allowed the freedom to be independent and involved in self-construction to the best of their ability. All of our practices and activities have the aims of functional, intellectual and social independence of the child, in alignment with and specific to the first plane of development (ages 0 to 6). We understand that we cannot cause children to develop; however, we can prepare the adults and the physical environment in such a way that they support the childrens’ internal drive to maturity. We use objective observation practices which are key in the adults’ assessment of and response to each individual child’s development. Our dual language immersion environment contributes to a number of cognitive, creative, and social abilities, further developing skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, empathy, and interpersonal skills. We aim to create global citizens who care for others, are life-long learners, and responsible stewards of the Earth.
